Through education, advocacy, and support, The Modern Military Association of America is making a real difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ servicemembers, military spouses, veterans, family members, survivors, and caregivers.

Our staff, volunteers and members have made incredible gains for the LGBTQ military and veteran community, but we now find ourselves in a challenging moment in our nation’s history. The Trump-Pence administration has rolled back critically important progress in the military and throughout the country in many ways — from bans on transgender military service and people living with HIV to removing protections for LGBTQ youth in schools.

MMAA currently has four high-profile lawsuits against the Trump-Pence administration challenging various discriminatory policies, but our work extends far beyond the courts as we work to support our modern military and veteran community.

Through our legal help desk, we assist members with discharge upgrades, legal name changes and discrimination. Through our Rainbow Shield certification program and other training, we equip military and veteran service providers with the skills they need to be culturally resilient in providing effective and efficient services to the LGBTQ and HIV+ military and veteran community. Through our military spouse scholarship, we enable military spouses to pursue their higher education goals. And through our Chapter Network, we facilitate opportunities for fellowship, camaraderie and leadership development for individuals and families located across the country and around the world.
